Business trip to Kenya 2015

News from the Island of Hope in Kenya – a new library and a computer classroom are being built

At the end of December a construction of a new computer classroom and a library has been started at the community centre – the Island of Hope. In a few months children from the orphanage and the primary school will be able to use the new library and the IT learning can be started in the newly built computer classroom.

A Kenyan girl called Eunice from the program of distant adoption has visited Prague... She has been invited by her “adoptive family” to spend Christmas in Europe.

The story began in 2007, when the Pavelka family from Bratislava, Slovakia, had read her life-story published at our webpage: Eunice Akinyi was born in August 12, 1996. Both of her parents died, when she was a little girl. She stays with her mother´s sister Evarlive Adhiambo, who takes take of her.

      
        

Christmas purchase of food for children in the Remote Adoptions program

A traditional and a highly valued Christmas purchase of food is just underway in Kenya. The money for this purchase comes from the unused annual scholarship paid for the Adoption of African children program, which we managed to save due to the exchange rate differences during the year.

„Adoptive“ girl Eunice has arrived from Kenya to spend Christmas with her „adoptive family“

A Kenyan girl from the Adoption of African children program – the project of remote support has flown in to visit her “adoptive family” in Bratislava. She will also visit Prague on Friday December 19 and we would like to make use of this opportunity and to invite you for a meeting with her. Eunice has lost her parents when she was a little girl. Her Slovakian adoptive family has been supporting her since 2007 and thanks to them and the project of Adoptions based on remote support Eunice can now continue her studies at the secondary school.

      
        

Meeting with Dominic, who we had been supporting for 10 years in the program of distant adoptions

When I found out, that I would fly to Nairobi for a CBRN workshop as an expert, I immediately started to prepare a plan to meet my adoptive boy (who is already 19 years old)  Dominic Mwangi. Dana – the director of Narovinu Centre helped me to connect  with my “adoptive son” Dominic and his Kenyan coordinator – Ken Okongo.

Success of Beneficial auction for Kenyan children

A benecial auction took place on Wednesday 29.10. 2014 where a unique statue of a Zimbabwian artist Lovemor Bonjisiho and talc artefacts from Kenya were auctioned. An unbelievable amount of 212 600,- CZK was raised and donated to children of the Russinga Island community centre. The money will be used for the reconstruction of the school canteen which will enable to resolve catering at the Island of Hope.

      
        

October 29 – Charity Auction of a unique sculpture made by Zimbabwe artist Lovemore Bonjisi

Acclaimed sculptor Lovemore Bonjisi, nicknamed “the African Michelangelo”, comes from the renowned Bonjisi dynasty of stone-sculptors. He visited the Czech Republic  in 2007 and could be watched at work in Prague Botanical Garden. On this occasion, he donated the sculpture to Centrum Narovinu.

Rose Auma – a Kenyan girl from the program of Adoption of african children – project of distant support, will visit her adoptive parents in Prague

With the help of Center Narovinu support Rose has completed her primary, secondary and college education. Today the 22 year old young lady studies successfully at the university in Kenya.

News from the farm on Island of Hope, Rusinga Island

The coordinators of the project of Island of Hope on Rusinga Island in Kenya send their regards to all their friends in Europe. The first harvest of maize and two hundred new chickens in the farm have made them really happy! The first crop from an eight-hectare field is another step on the way to sustainability of the project which has to feed 350 children a day.

      
        

Echos from the vernissage of Africa Through Uncommon Eyes

On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, the exhibition Africa Through Uncommon Eyes opened in RIM Gallery. Thanks to the financial support from RIM-CZ and the visitors buying fair trade products, the amount of 27,000 Kč was raised during the first day for development help in Kenya.

New photographs and videos from the last trip to Kenya

Ms Dana Feminová visited Kenya again from March 21 to April 7. As usual, she was very busy organizing seminars for the coordinators of Distant Adoption of African Children and Partnership of Czech and Kenyan Schools, handing over the presents sent to the children by their adoptive parents etc. She also visited Rusinga Island and Island of Hope to discuss future of the project and next steps to its sustainability.

Big floods on Island of Hope, Rusinga Island, Kenya

Due to a wild storm striking Rusinga Island in the middle of March, lots of houses on Rusinga Island were damaged. Although the water flooded Island of Hope too, all our buildings fortunately survived. In order to protect them from getting soaked and prevent further damage of the farm, another drainage channel will have to be made as soon as possible to drain water straight to the lake.

Looking back at the fundraising event and an opportunity to online-purchase of several last beautiful works by children from around the world

The fundraising event took place in Prague in Kinsky Summerhouse in cooperation with Radio Junior Czech Radio on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 15 to 19 hours. There was very nice atmosphere all the afternoon. Children and students tried several workshops with African topics , the adults discussed the current situation in Africa, development projects, and watched latest videos documenting the progress of our projects.

25/9 Center Narovinu took part in Czech Radio's vernisage names "Drawing online 2013"

It was already the eighth time, when children from Kenya participated on the Czech Radio's art competition  "Drawing online 2013". The topic of this year was "No fear of spooks" and there wer exibited pictures from the Czech Republic, Kenya, Slovakia, Bulgary, Ungaria, Russia, India, Indonasia and U.
