Echos from the vernissage of Africa Through Uncommon Eyes

On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, the exhibition Africa Through Uncommon Eyes opened in RIM Gallery. Thanks to the financial support from RIM-CZ and the visitors buying fair trade products, the amount of 27,000 Kč was raised during the first day for development help in Kenya.

The exhibition hall in the headquarters of RIM-CZ, an office chairs manufacturer, was busy from an early morning. Over forty pupils from the Trávníky Elementary School in Otrokovice visited the exhibition during the morning and learnt about the living conditions in Africa, the problems the local peole cope with and the ways how the situation can be improved.

The afternoon program was dedicated to the vernissage itself. The Mayors of Otrokovice, Tlumačov and Napajedla and other guests arrived in the gallery. In the beginning, Milan Nagy and Rudolf Fukal, the executive directors of RIM-CZ, thanked to everyone who helped to organize the event. Then Ms Simona Heřtusová from Center Narovinu received a cheque for 20,000 Kč. The money will be used for building a secondary school on Rusinga Island in Kenya.

The guests showed a big interest in the African products which were offered for sale in a little fair trade shop - stone statuetttes, bowls, necklaces, earrings and other things were selling like hotcakes, earning 5,000 Kč which are going to be sent to the Kenyan manufacturers. The visitors could also buy gift certificates for school supplies, uniforms, bags and other things the children from Rusinga Island need to be able to attend school.

The exhibition in RIM Gallery in Otrokovice (Dr. E. Beneše 1015) is opened till June 30, 2014 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy the photographs and help to improve the life of African children by buying the handmade products and gift certificates available in our fair trade shop.
