Description of the situation: John is the last born in the family of two children (brother Roy born 2005). The father who was the only family breadwinner died leaving the mother who sells vegetables along the road to feed and also pay school fees to the children. Her income is very little and she cannot manage to provide for the family (3,200 KES per month – about 32 Eur). They live in a two roomed mud house that belongs to the family. They take water from a bore hole and cook on fire (using charcoal). They use koresene lamp for lighting. John is doing well except of the occasional malaria. Since 2019, John has been attending the Island of Hope school and he boards at the orphange during the school year. In 2023 he is already in form 8th. He likes mathematics and science and social studies. Beside the school, he likes playing football. Adoption of this child costs 5 600 CZK/220 EUR per year.
