Description of the situation:
Brighton is the second born in the family of two children (sibling Christine, born 2007). Father who was the sole breadwinner died leaving them with their mother who later on disappeared. Because of this Brighton was taken by his aunt who is an instructor in a driving college and the income she gets is meager to provide the basic needs in life to the family. Family´s average is 5,000 KES per month – about 50 EUR. The family (which has 3 members altogether) lives in a rental 1-roomed semi-permanent house. They get water from the lake, use charcoal or paraffin for cooking and kerosene lamp for lighting. Brighton is doing well except of the occasional malaria. In 2023 Brighton started 7th class in primary school and needs a support. He likes mathematics, religion, science and kiswahili. He would like to be a teacher at the end of his studies. Brighton also likes playing football. He joined the orphanage in our community centre Island of Hope in January 2020. Adoption of this child therefore costs 16.800 CZK/660 EUR per year (the amount covers school fees, accommodation, food and governess in an orphanage as well).
