Sophy Awuor Otieno has been in adoption programme since year 2021 and she goes to school Island of Hope Humanist School.
City, quarter: Kamasengre East Kamayoge
State: Kenya
Mother: Elizabeth Awiti Mbom, birth 1991, housewife
Father: James Otieno Ojwang, birth 1993, farmer
Guardian: Meresa Adoyo Mbom, birth 1959, cook
Description of the situation: Sophy was born in 2018 and she is the first born and the only child in the family as of now. Her father is a farmer who does small scale farming of groundnuts, sweet potatoes and cassavas. The mother is a housewife and depends on the money they get from the farm. The family lives together with grandparents, Sophy’s grandmother is a cook and she is paying for school for her eldest son at the high school (Sophy’s uncle). Sophy’s parents net income is about 4.000 Ksh (40 EUR) per month. The family lives in a four room mud house, which is theirs. They use solar for lighting, get water from the lake and also use firewood/ charcoal for cooking. Sophy is healthy. She likes playing football. Due to the little income that the family earns it is hard to meet basic needs and also to pay school fees. That is why we decided to put the girl into our program so that she can go to school. In 2021 she is attending kindergarten. Her adoption costs 2.400 CZK/ 100 EUR per school term.
