Child from Island of Hope
Evaline Gloria Okoth has been in adoption programme since year 2021 and she goes to school Island of Hope Humanist School.
City, quarter: Kamasengre West Ufira
State: Kenya
Mother: Lourine Akinyi, birth 1995, sells fish
Father: Kevin Odhiambo, birth 1992, fisherman
Description of the situation: Evaline Gloria was born in 2018 as the last born in her family. She has siblings Jim (born 2009), John (born 2013) and Brandon (born 2015). The father is the breadwinner of the family and works as a fisherman, the mother sells fish. The family is currently staying in a single-roomed mud house in a fishing village at Rusinga Island where they pay rent of 700 KSH every month. Their net income is about 4.000 KSH (40 EUR) a month. They use solar for lighting, get water from the lake and also use firewood/ charcoal for cooking. Evaline is healthy and she really likes dancing. Due to the little income that the family earns it is hard to meet basic needs and also to pay school fees. That is why we decided to put the girl into our program so that she can go to school. In 2021 she started attending kindergarten. Her adoption costs 2.400 CZK/ 100 EUR per school term.
