Description of the situation: Shevine was born in 2008 as the first born in the family of four children. Both their parents died leaving the children with their old grandmother who is also a widow to feed them and also take them to school. The grandmother is a peasant farmer and the income she gets here is very little to feed and also pay for school fees to the children. Her average income is 2500 KES (approximately 22 EUR) per month. Apart from Shevine and girl’s siblings, the grandmother also takes care of two other children who were born out of wedlock. The family lives in a three roomed semi permanent house, they get water from the lake, uses firewood for cooking and also uses kerosene for lighting. Shevine is healthy. Due to the family situation the child was chosen for placement in the orphanage "Island of Hope" on Rusinga Island, where she found new home and goes to school. In 2023 she started secondary school.

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children. School fees at primary school are CZK 7200 (€300) / year, and at secondary school, college and orphanage are CZK 16800 (€660). The payment can also be broken down into multiple instalments.
