Description of the situation: Betina is the fifth born in the family of seven children (siblings Sisian (1998), Nimrone (2000), Lina (2003), Phiona (2006), Harriet (2010) and Paul (2017). The father who was the only family breadwinner died leaving the mother who sells charcoal to feed and also pay school fees to the children. Apart from Betina and the siblings, they also lives with one girl who is an orphan and also has her own child. The income the family gets is meager to provide the basic needs in life to the family. Family´s average is 2,300 KES per month – about 23 EUR. The 10 members of the family live in a their own three roomed mud house, get their water from the river and use little solar panel or kerosene lamp for lighting and firewood for cooking. Betina is doing well except sometimes he has cough and the whole family is also doing well health wise except Lina (Betina’s sister) has an eye problem. Betina likes Science, English, Kiswahili and Mathematics. She would like to be a nurse at the end of her studies. She also likes music and singing. She lives in the orphanage in our community centre Island of Hope since January 2020. Adoption of this child costs 16.800 CZK/ 660 EUR per year (the amount covers school fees, accommodation, food and governess in an orphanage as well).

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children. School fees at primary school are CZK 7200 (€300) / year, and at secondary school, college and orphanage are CZK 16800 (€660). The payment can also be broken down into multiple instalments.
