Child from Island of Hope
Merclyne Achieng has been in adoption programme since year 2021 and she goes to school Island of Hope Humanist School.
City, quarter: Kamasengre East Kamayoge
State: Kenya
Mother: Grace Auma, birth 1984, housewife
Description of the situation: Merclyne was born in 2015 to a polygamnous family and she is the third born in the family of seven children. Her sister Regina is also in the program under number 52133. Her father who was the only breadwinner died leaving the mother who is a housewife and epileptic to provide everything for the family. Unfortunately it is not possible for her to feed and pay school to all her children, because family income is just about 2.100 Ksh (21 EUR) a month. Family lives in one roomed mud house, they use kerosene for lighting, get water from the lake and use firewood for cooking. Merclyne is healthy except for occasional malaria. She likes football and netball. In 2021 she will start to attend kindergarten and she will join the orphanage in our community centre Island of Hope in order to have regular food and a place to sleep. Adoption of Merclyne costs 5.600 CZK/ 220 EUR per school term (the amount covers school fees, accommodation, food and governess in an orphanage as well).

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children. School fees at primary school are CZK 7200 (€300) / year, and at secondary school, college and orphanage are CZK 16800 (€660). The payment can also be broken down into multiple instalments.
