Back
Child number: 53005
Girl, 18 years
Adopted
Child from Island of Hope
Lilian Achieng James has been in adoption programme since year 2022 and she goes to school Island of Hope Humanist Mixed Boarding School.
City, quarter: Rusinga East Utajo
State: Kenya
Mother: Seline Anyango James, birth 1980, housewife
Father: James Owuor Onyango, birth 1960, fishing
Description of the situation: Lilian was born in 2006 and she has 3 siblings (Tuphine born 2003, Nicodemus 2006 and Brian born 2001). Lilian comes from a polygamist family of two where her mother is a second wife of the father. The father does fishing while the mother is a housewife. Unfortunately the income they have is not enough to feed and pay for the school fees. Net family income is about 4.200 KES (42 EUR) per month. The family lives in a three roomed mud house that belongs to the family, they get water from the lake, use firewood for cooking and solar or kerosene for lighting. Lilian is doing well except for the occasional malaria. She likes reading story books and playing football. In school she really enjoys Social Science and English and when she finishes her studies she would like to be a doctor. In 2023 she is in third grade at our Island of Hope Humanist Secondary school but unfortunately she lost her adoptive parent. Expenses in high school are unfortunately higher than in primary school and therefore his adoption costs 5.600 CZK/ 220 EUR per school term (16.800 CZK/ 660 EUR per year).

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children. School fees at primary school are CZK 7200 (€300) / year, and at secondary school, college and orphanage are CZK 16800 (€660). The payment can also be broken down into multiple instalments.
