Back
Child number: 53214
Girl, 5 years
Adopted
Child from Island of Hope
Lucy Achieng Mitawia has been in adoption programme since year 2024 and she goes to school Island of Hope Humanist School.
City, quarter: Kamasengre West Ufira
State: Kenya
Mother: Moline Achieng, birth 1996, house wife
Father: Mark Otieno Mitawia, birth 1979, fisherman
Description of the situation: Lucy comes from a polygamous family where her mother is the second wife of the father. In their house, she is the youngest. Her older siblings are Cynthia Achieng (born 2015), Mark Otieno (2019). Father does fishing while the mother is a house wife. The income the father gets is meagre to feed, pay school fees and also provide other basic needs for his children from the two wives. Lucy has taken longer to start attending kindergarden because the family income is little to pay school fees. They live in a one-room mud house which is rental. They use firewood for cooking, kerosene/solar for lighting and get water from a lake. Lucy likes reciting poems and playing soccker. In January 2025 she should join a kindergarten at Island of Hope Humanist School. She needs a support with an amount of 7200 CZK/300 EUR per year (600 CZK/25 EUR per month).

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children. School fees at primary school are CZK 7200 (€300) / year, and at secondary school, college and orphanage are CZK 16800 (€660). The payment can also be broken down into multiple instalments.

You can also provide the adoptive children by health insurance, that covers any medical treatment the child needs during 1 year.
