Mother: Lilian Achieng Sila, birth 1991, sells vegetables
Father: Gordon Okoth Onyango, birth 1984, motorcycle rider
Description of the situation: Sophy is the third born in the family of six children. Her siblings are Alpha Steven Onyango (born 2011), John Oluoch (born 2013), MaryAnn Akinyi (2017), Junior Alfred (2010), David Ajwang’ (2013). The mother sells vegetables along the road to earn a living while the father rides a motor cycle. Father is a drunkard and spends all his money on alcohol. Sometimes he even steals money from his wife. When he is drunk, he chases the family away from home and behaves very violently, especially towards Sophy. Apart from Sophy and the sibblings, the parents also support an old and sickling grandmother. They live in a three roomed mud house which belongs to them. They use firewood/charcoal for cooking, kerosene/solar lamp for lighting and they get water from lake. Sophy likes singing, skipping and drama. In school she likes English, Creative Art and she would like to be a teacher after school. Due to a very bad conditions at home she joined an orphanage at Island of Hope and starts visiting a class 3 here from January 2025. She needs support with an amount of 16.800 CZK/660 EUR per year (1400 CZK/55 EUR per month).

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children.
