Description of the situation:
Sheila was the only child of the mother, the mother died leaving her alone with no one to feed and also provide her with other basic needs in life and that is why she was taken by her grandmother who sells vegetables along the road. Apart from Sheila, the grandmother also takes care of her husband, her daughter and Sheila’s cousin. The income she gets is meagre to provide all the basic needs to the family. The family average monthly income is 2300 KES (19 Eur). The family of five people lives in a three roomed mud house, they get water from the lake, use kerosene for lighting and firewood for cooking. Sheila is doing well at present.
Due to the family situation the child was placed in the orphanage "Island of Hope" on the Rusinga Island, where this child should find new home and start going to school. (Adoption of this child is increased by the amount of 16.800 CZK/660 EUR per year to cover the cost of the study, accommodation, food and governess in the orphanage.)
