Back
Child number: 52993
Girl, 6 years
Adopted
Child from Island of Hope
Phiona Akoth Odhiambo has been in adoption programme since year 2021 and she goes to school Island of Hope Humanist School.
City, quarter: Kamasengre West Ufira
State: Kenya
Mother: Alice Atieno, birth 1980, sells fish
Description of the situation: Phiona was born in 2018 as the last born in the family of seven children. The father died leaving the mother who only sells fish to provide the basic needs in life to the children. However much she is trying, she can’t manage due to the meagre income, her net income is about 2.500 Ksh (25 EUR) per month. The family lives in a three roomed mud house; they get water from the lake, use firewood for cooking and kerosene lamps for lighting. Phiona is doing well healthwise except for the occasional malaria. She really likes making friends and cooking. Due to the low income that the mother earns it is hard to meet basic needs and also to pay school fees for the children. That is why we decided to put Phiona into our program so that she can go to school. In 2021 she is attending kindergarten. Her adoption costs 2.400 CZK/ 100 EUR per school term. Will you help her to get an education?
