Child from Island of Hope
Shalima Baraka Oweya has been in adoption programme since year 2022 and she goes to school Island of Hope Humanist School.
City, quarter: Kamasengre West Ukowe
State: Kenya
Mother: Penina Achieng Nyawanda, birth 1993, sells fish
Father: Kennedy Oweya Obonyo, fisherman
Description of the situation: Shalima was born in 2019 and has one older sibling, Frankline (2012). Her father is a fisherman, and their mother sells fish to provide for the family. Shalima and her family live in a permanent home that has three rooms and five people living in it. Her father had two wives, but one of them passed leaving her children to move in and live with Shamila and her brother. The family’s net income is 10,000 KSH (100 EUR) per month. They use firewood and charcoal for cooking and get their water from the lake. For lighting around the home, they use solar powered lights. Some of her hobbies include playing football and soccer. Shamila occasionally struggles with malaria but otherwise is healthy. Shamila hoped to be joining the Island of Hope’s playing group in the 2022 school year. Her adoption costs are 2.400 CZK/ 100 EUR per school term (7.200 CZK/ 300 EUR per year). Will you help Shamila’s family send her to school?
