Description of the situation: Michael is the last born in the family. He has two siblings - David Owino Ondiek (born 1992) and Conslate Akoth Ondiek (born 1996). The father is a motorcycle driver [Boda boda]. The parents are separated and the children remained with the father who is doing Boda boda business and therefore is not able to take care of the children and their grandmother does so instead of him. The avergae monthly income the family gets is around Kshs. 2500 which is very little to pay school fees for the children (two of them in college) and also to feed the family. They live in a three-room semi-permanent house which belongs to the family. They use firewood for cooking, kerosene lamp for lighting and take water from the lake. Michael is doing well health wise except of the occasional malaria. In 2017 he would like to join a nursery in Community Center Island of Hope.

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children. School fees at primary school are CZK 7200 (€300) / year, and at secondary school, college and orphanage are CZK 16800 (€660). The payment can also be broken down into multiple instalments.
