Description of the situation: Susan comes from a polygamous family where her mother is the second wife of the father, the first wife of the father died leaving three children behind for Susan’s mother to feed and also provide other basic needs in life (all siblings James born 2005, Pamella born 2006, Jesca born 2008 and Miriam born 2012). The father does security work in a bar and the income he gets is very little to feed and pay school fees to the children (5,000 KES – about 50 Eur). The family (which has 7 members altogether) lives in their own 2-roomed mud house. They get water from the river, uses firewood for cooking and kerosene lamp for lighting. In 2019, Susan will be in 2 nd class in nursery school. She likes nature, she likes being outside. She also likes playing netball, fetching firewood/water. Susan is doing well except sometimes he has cough. She will join the orphanage in our community centre Island of Hope since January 2019. Adoption of this child costs 16,800 CZK/660 EUR per year (the amount covers school fees, accommodation, food and governess in an orphanage as well).

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children. School fees at primary school are CZK 7200 (€300) / year, and at secondary school, college and orphanage are CZK 16800 (€660). The payment can also be broken down into multiple instalments.
