Back
Child number: 52989
Girl, 6 years
Adopted
Child from Island of Hope
Donah Atieno Ooko has been in adoption programme since year 2021 and she goes to school Island of Hope Humanist School.
City, quarter: Kamasengre west Ukowe
State: Kenya
Mother: Fancy Achieng, birth 1996, housewife
Father: Collins Ooko, birth 1989, fisherman
Description of the situation: Donah was born in 2018 as the second born in the family of two children, she has a sister Shantel born in 2015. Her father does fishing while the mother is a housewife. The income the family gets is meagre to provide the basic needs in life to the family, net family income is 3.000 Ksh (30 EUR) a month. The family lives in a one roomed mud house, which belongs to the family. They use candles for lighting, get water from the lake and use firewood/ charcoal for cooking. Donah is healthy and she really likes football and jumping over the rope. Due to the low income that the family earns it is hard to meet basic needs and also to pay school fees for the children. That is why we decided to put the girl into our program, thanks to this, she went to kindergarten on Island of Hope Rusinga and now she goes to primary school here.

The project of remote support „Adoptions of African children“ mediates an access to education for poor Kenyan children without pulling them out of their natural environment and community. This project has been running since 2002 and has helped more than 3500 children. School fees at primary school are CZK 7200 (€300) / year, and at secondary school, college and orphanage are CZK 16800 (€660). The payment can also be broken down into multiple instalments.
