Date of establishment
It was established in 2002. We started this school because of the
Orphans and the vulnerable children. We wanted to give the quality education. The school serves a rural community whose majority live below the poverty line.
How the name of the school came about
The name came about after the owner of the Land had died.
Who were involved
The Bukaywa women group, the community and the teachers were involved. The group helped with the funds, ideas paying of teachers, cooking for Teachers and pupils and encouraging the teachers, pupils and students. The community and the teachers also helped in giving ideas and knowledge to the pupils.
The Bukaywa Humanist School has currently 280 orphans and vulnerable chidren thus:

Current situation of the school
The school has nine teachers, six classes, watchman and a cook. The total number of pupils is 280 (150 boys, 130 girls). We are feeding all the orphans and vulnerable children. The director Mrs. Mary looks forward to a fully equipped, academic oriented school which will help the needy around Bukaywa area. This can only be realized if funds are available to hire more qualified teachers, addition of sanitation facilities, desks and permanent classrooms for them to feed all the children.
Future plans
We are aiming at having a secondary school, a dispensary to cater for the pupils and the community at large. A vehicle to transport the pupils to and from their homes. We also aim at buying a plot and erecting structures on the plot because at present we are operating on a rented plot. We look forward to buying with added help.
