The Kenyan school year begins in January and is divided into 3 terms. The end of each term is followed by the holidays, when teachers have free time, but they are also preparing for the next term. Teachers are paid even during the holidays.

1st term – January to March + April holidays and preparation
2nd term – May to July + August holidays and preparation
3rd term – September to October + November and December holidays and preparation
